Reported Results: | Average corn yields were increased by S application in 2002 and 2003. An interaction of N × S for corn yields was observed in 2005, and there was a strong tendency for an interaction in 2004. Sulfur application at 33 kg ha−1 significantly (P ≤ 0.05) increased corn yield at the intermediate N rate of 133 kg ha−1, and showed a general tendency to increase yield at lower N rates in 2004 and 2005. This suggests that less N fertilizer can be used by addition of S, and the S addition has the potential to both improve profitability and reduce NO3contamination of water due to excess N fertilizer use.
